The Department of Geography and Geographic Information Science (GGIS) is pleased to offer an online, non-thesis Master of Science (M.S.) degree in CyberGIS and Geospatial Data Science to serve remotely located learners and working professionals who are unable to attend on-campus. This degree is focused on developing skills related to advances in high-performance and data-intensive computing as well as geospatial data analysis, management, processing, and visualization. The CyberGIS field has rapidly emerged as a major force in private and public organizations and in higher education for harnessing the rapid geospatial data revolution. These are areas of long-standing strength in the Department of GGIS, which also has faculty expertise in innovative online pedagogy.
Employment options for CyberGIS & Geospatial Data Science graduates are numerous. Depending on your area of interest, graduates can choose rewarding careers in government, private industry, non-profit organizations, and educational services. Geography & GIScience graduates have successful careers in the public and private sectors, working for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Environmental Protection Agency, and Geological Survey, and at companies such as American Airlines, ESRI, IBM, Google, Microsoft, and many others. A Master’s degree is often required to advance within the profession and this program is designed to satisfy demand from non-traditional students so they may maintain personal and professional obligations.
Students pursuing the online master’s degree in CyberGIS and Geospatial Data Science will complete 32 total credit hours of coursework which will include courses from the approved curriculum listing and may also include other adviser-approved electives. The program requirements will conclude with 4 to 8 hours of the program capstone course. If courses were taken previously for the certificate sequence, they may be applied to the Master’s degree requirements. Students should consult with a program advisor to discus a program plan of study for the Master’s program to meet their personal and/or professional goals.
